[Food Trip] Izubo - Davao City

Specialize in international cuisine, Izubo is not a Japanese restaurant. Izubo is a word derived from a Filipino phrase “isubo mo” which means “to eat.”

Their wide selection from Western to Asian dishes are all delish!

Hows the food?

Peking chicken

Peking Chicken

Peking Chicken is a roast chicken dish infused with spices paired with a sweet and sour sauce.

The dish seems it looks like any other roast chicken. Wait until you taste! The dish does have its crisp skin. The chicken meat is juicy not dry. it has a smoky flavor that burst into your taste buds. It tastes like a roast duck.  This is Izubo’s own version of the China’s favorite dish – Peking duck.

They have Beef Rendang – a Malay beef dish. It is just like a beef curry. Their version of Beef Rendang is caramelized spices, coconut and chilies. The beef is cooked perfectly and you could slice it with the use of fork. The sauce has a creamy texture that would complement with the dishes’ spiciness. It definitely melts in your mouth.

Izubo Fried Rice gets the restaurant’s name. It is Thai fried rice. It is like the usual fried rice with egg and infused with herbs such as cilantro and basil.  This fried rice is unique because it has tomatoes. The tomatoes compliment the overall herb-taste of the rice. It burst acidity of the rice which makes it delicious.

They serve a wide range of food selection. You can even ask the waiters for recommended dishes.

Overall Verdict?

As a starting restaurant, they haven't invested much in their interior design. The restaurant designed their tables with red table cloth and long tables. It drags as a simple family restaurant that caters family eat outs on a weekend. They invested more on the taste of the food which it uplifts the restaurant's vibe. Once you've tasted their food, you'll be returning again.

I'll give them a 4/5 rating overall.

Izubo Restaurant is located at Km3, MacArthur Highway, Matina, Davao City. It is just passed Tulip Drive and before Davao Memorial Park.
