[Food Trip] Alavar's Seafood Restaurant - Zamboanga City

I had a chance to have a quick visit in Zamboanga City. Me and my friend checked-in at Garden Orchid Hotel that night. I asked the receptionist of the hotel about the best seafood restaurant in the city. She replied instantly Alavar's! So quickly we rode a tricycle to the restaurant.

I don't know the background of the name of the restaurant but their specialty is seafood.

Situated in a Brgy. Tetuan, Zamboanga City, this homey atmosphere of the restaurant is good for family dinner and gatherings.

How's the food?

Baked Clams (front), Calamari (back)

We've ordered Baked Clams, Calamari, Seafood Platter and Crab in Alavar Sauce! The baked clams is my favorite! It has a sweet, garlicky and buttery flavor that blast in your taste buds. Perfectly seasoned on a shellfish.

Yes! It's a seafood galore.Unfortunately, the calamari they served is chewy and rubbery.

Crab in Alavar Sauce

I am not a crab eater but their crabs is tasty! The restaurant is famous for it's Alavar sauce. The taste of this sauce contains coconut and secret spices that makes the crab more tasty and aromatic. It blends well with the crab.

Prices for the main course ranges from 90 – 1500 php. They do offer wide range of menu not only seafood. They also have vegetables, chicken and etc.

Overall Verdict?

Homey atmosphere, elegant interior designs and good food! Alavar's is one of the restaurants that you shouldn't miss whenever you are in Zamboanga. I was bit disappointed of the Calamari -- or probably we visited the restaurant an hour before closing.  The best is the Alavar sauce! It is one of a kind sauce that is perfect for the crab! They also sold 1/2 kilo of sauce for 250 php which is perfect for pasalubong!

I rate them 3.5/5 overall rating.
